The winners of the MPOY 2024 competition, Mammal Connections have now been announced. The standard was absolutely brilliant in all the categories.

On the whole the figures from the Barn Owl Trusts State of the UK Barn Owl Population 2023 report show that it was another good year for breeding Barn Owls across the UK.

Barn Owls have fascinated me from childhood, waiting, hidden away as one appeared from nowhere. Their beautiful round face and piercing black eyes staring back at you.
Water voles are in trouble, they are our fastest declining mammal. In the 1980’s and 90’s they suffered a catastrophic 90% drop in their population, largely due to the spread of American mink, which were introduced into our countryside through illegal releases or escapes from fur farms.
Global Tiger Day is celebrated across the world in recognition of the animal regularly voted the public’s favorite animal. Despite this, the Tiger is endangered and under threat of extinction from habitat destruction and poaching.
Hedgehogs are Britain’s most loved mammal, mention their name and it’s always met with lots of love. Sadly today they aren’t seen in the numbers that were around decades ago. But they still hold a firm place in the nation’s hearts.
The results of the year-long global vote to create a New Big 5 project have now been released. The project was designed to create a New Big 5 of wildlife photography, shooting with cameras, not guns.
Using my camera I try and show not only the beauty of the natural world but also the suffering within that world. My hope is to give all those species a true and meaningful voice around the world with my photographs.
