The male Blackbird defending his territory against another male Blackbird. I heard that distinctive alarm call beforehand. It’s become a bit of a routine for me as described in my previous post.

Each year a pair of Blackbirds nest in my back garden. They are one of my favourite birds and have such a beautiful and evocative call.

In the latest issue of Outdoor Photography magazine you can read an article I wrote for their Moment with Nature section. I chose a very powerful image from a rescue mission I was part of in Northern Sumatra, Indonesia.

Spring lifts the spirits and brings places to life. It’s the best time of year, full of life, action and wildlife behaviour. The British countryside is beautiful at the best of times but in spring it’s just incredible.

A few years ago I had the privilege of spending two weeks in the province of Assam in North-eastern India documenting the 100th Pygmy Hog release for Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust based in Jersey. The work being done to save this critically endangered species is just amazing.

The Peak District Mountain Hare is one of the most iconic mammals we have in the Uplands of England. Surrounded in many places by driven grouse moors, they are in need of protection. This special mammal has been present in Britain for a long time and were native to the Peak District but sadly died out around 6,000 years ago.

Using my camera I try and show not only the beauty of the natural world but also the suffering within that world. My hope is to give all those species a true and meaningful voice around the world with my photographs.
