The Societies of Photographers 2019 Convention
I presented two masterclasses at the Societies of Photographers 2019 Convention and Trade Show in London. Both of my masterclasses were designed to inspire and show how I work in the field and what’s behind my thought process and images. The title of the event comes over fancy and upmarket but my talks were very down to earth, honest with humour, passion and love for the natural world.
The 2019 Convention was a veritable feast of education, with four days of action packed programmes designed to help you put your imagery ahead of the game. Lots of amazing speakers at the event all of which you can see by clicking here. My two masterclass talks were as follows ;
Conservation with a Camera
Day: Friday 18th Jan 2019
Time: 13.00 to 15.00 – Masterclass
The word conservation means many things to many different people, it brings to mind all sorts of thoughts when that word is mentioned. For me it means simply to care, to love and to protect wildlife. With minimal intervention twinned with a great respect for wildlife I use my camera as an extension of myself.
Dawn to Dusk- A journey of beauty
Day: Saturday 19th Jan 2019
Time: 16.00 to 18.00 – Masterclass
The talk goes through camera settings, compositions, light and fieldcraft. Showing you a usable workflow that works on the ground, the same as I uses, with no secrets, no hidden settings. The beauty of photographing wildlife is that it is always changing and evolving, encountering the unexpected. In this environment the photographer must learn to work with these changing environmental conditions and behaviours, and the result cannot always be predicted.
Each presentation was designed to help and inspire in the following ways –
1. Be Inspired by the beauty of the natural world
2. Learn how to use your camera as an extension of yourself in the wild.
3. Work more ethically where the welfare of the subject is the most important thing.
4. Be a voice for the natural world and let your images speak for them.
5. Create a simple workflow that works in the theater of wildlife.
